For many with shows, the first few days before the Fringe begins is painting the town with your posters and flyers. There are a few caveats to consider though:
PRO TIP:
Offer comps to people who work in cafes, pubs or even charity shops, and leave a pile of flyers - they can pimp your show out to their patrons, many of whom will be Fringe visitors.
- Always approach whoever is behind the counter politely, after they've dealt with any sales or customers.
- After greeting them, ask what their postering policy is. It's usually a safe bet if they have other posters up already. Remember that they've already had this question many times.
- Ask if it's also okay to leave some flyers - never assume that a yes to posters means a yes to flyers, too.
- Never post over any part of another performer's flyers.
- Walls are not necessarily fair game. If you're postering outside and you've found a place where there are no posters, it's probably for a reason.
- You will get a nasty rap on the knuckles if you poster over any of the big posters. Don't forget that you're very findable via your poster, so play the game by the rules.
